This is a lager, distinctive in that it was brewed with rye (Roggen), rather than the traditional ingredients. In fact, rye is not commonly used for the very reason behind the Reinheitsgebot: Rye was too valuable for bread, so barley was considered the "designated" grain used. Anyway, this gave it a unique, tasty flavor that I really enjoyed. Tastes similar to a weiss beer.
