The Yanks signed Mo and Posada to 3 year deals... they'll likely be overpaid in the 2nd or 3rd year of the deal... which means the deal was offered because we want to win 08. Bad. We've got a new team model, TONS of young talent (Joba, Melky, Kennedy, Hughes etc), new manager, and lots of familiar faces like Jeter, Cano, Posada, Mo, Pettite, Wang, Arod, and so on and so forth. We have, with little debate, the best offensive lineup in baseball... of course, as is proven year after year, defense wins championships. This is the year our pitching comes together though, we have a couple proven guys in Pettite and Wang, Moose is questionable, then we have Kennedy, Joba, and Hughes who should all share start time this year. As good as those youngs guys showed themselves to be in their limited time in 2007, 2008 could be a scary good year for the Yanks. Sign of times changing? We told the Twins to shove it when they wanted multiple young players from us, when have we EVER passed on proven talent in turn for young players? Cashman's doing, that's for sure, and I suspect it will pay off very, very soon. But yes, this was a GREAT deal for Detroit... they'll be a force next year for sure. Cabrera-Sheff-Ordonez is a hella scary 3 to pitch to.

The worst hitter in the line up will be a .290 guy and the other 8 will all be over .300 hitters. Plus 8 of the 9 guys are all stars. Its been a long time since we have had a team like this in Detroit so I am going to savor it before the next 20 year drought.

Good luck with that! Edited by John 2007-12-05 4:10 PM

Good luck with that! Girardi is the best man for the job. He knows New York just fine, from what I hear, he's been there once or twice. He can handle the Steiny pressure, and it's mostly his sons calling shots nowadays anyway. Not sure about "hard-assed jerk," I think he'll actually be less stubborn than Torre was. Likely he'll identify with the players a helluva lot better, and will blend in among them. NL Manager of the Year fired to become AL Manager of the Year.
