Location: Marietta, Ga | Well, after sickness, getting engaged, and a flooded basement, I finally get back to beer.
Terrapin Beer Co. Athens, Georgia, USA
Bottle: 22 oz brown glass bomber with a blue, green, white, and black label featuring a turtle. Capped and foiled with gold foil.
Color: Pours a slightly hazy dark straw color showing off both some small clinging and some non-trailing bubbles.
Head: Creates a moderately well retained 1/2 finger head of mixed very small, small, and medium off-white bubbles. It leaves spotty wet lacing as it is drunk.
Aroma: Floral smells come out first, with some lighter wheat smells. There is a little bit of lemon smell, and some light bits of undifferentiated spice. There is a nice yeast smell, along with some nice sweet grassy smells. I almost want to say there is a rye smell in there as well.
Taste: Spicy and sweet flavors start up front with crisp unripe grapes and apples, with spice flavors coming in soon after. There is some lemon peel flavor in the middle, where the hops comes in with a slightly metallic and earthy flavor. There is some spicy and funky yeast flavor, too that lasts to the end with the hops. The finish is long and hoppy/yeasty.
Overall: Pretty good. Lighter in flavor than expected. I liked the fruit flavors, but there was just a little bit too much harshness overall for me in this one. It could be mellowed out a bit and still be in style. 6 out of 10 overall, 4 out of 10 in-style.
