Anyone else try this yet?

A cutesy retro label tells you that this is Spoetzl's attempt at a rauchbier.  The smoke aroma almost masks the ol' Shiner smell as you pour, but there's no denying this is a lot like the 99 Helles (after all this too is called a Helles.)  One can pretty much assume it's the same recipe with the addition of the smoke flavoring process.

So to sum up:  It's kind of like drinking Shiner 99 while inhaling bonfire smoke--and that's not necessarily a bad thing, just not something I feel like I'd crave often.  I'd rather have them put out the 99 recipe on its own as a regular offering.

TOBP scale: 5 out of 10 mugs.

I've seen it but haven't tried it yet. I'm not much for smoke in beer except for Scotch Ales which are a different kind of smoke altogether. Being German I'm basically a sucker for spelling house, haus, so I'll probably end up giving it a try eventually. I don't know why they don't just go all the way and call it Shiner Räucherei.

I just tried it and oooh, NOM! It's like all my favorite, favorite, favorite memories of roasted meats in a glass. I've gotta get me a few Cases of this and try it with/in all my favorite chili and BBQ recipes.
