Location: The Land of Enchantment | Picked up for $3.99 at Trader Joe's. I knew I was tempting fate with a canned pilsner that was meant to evoke swill of days past, but curiosity got the better of me. Thank God this was not a repeat of DB Hobbs Golden Lager (guhhhh.) Surprisingly, this wasn't in the bottom 10 beers I've ever had. Although this will never be mistaken for a well-crafted, adjunct-free microbrew, it actually has...taste. It almost comes close to the taste of a *real* Pilsner. Not as good as, say, Pilsner Urquell, but better than a Budweiser...for $3.99 a (can) sixer, this isn't a bad cheap summer choice, with a fairly good 5.5% abv kick. Too bad winter's starting. Still, I'll gladly finish these off while grudgingly sawing and chopping apart the remains of our cottonwood tree for much-needed firewood. Going by the tobp.com scale, a better than it sounds 4 out of 10.

Location: Redondo Beach, CA | The Trader Joe's "house" beers are usually a lot better than you'd think. For instance, their "Stockyard Oatmeal Stout" is just a re-labeled Goose Island's Oatmeal Stout and yet it's only 4.99 a sixer. Although I've yet to try the Simpler Times, I'm sure you could do a lot worse for a cheap session beer. |

Since Goose Island Oatmeal Stout is very high on my list I'm sold. Now if I can find it (preferably bottled). |
