Looked in a few places now for the Erdinger Christmas bottles but still not around. Anybody come across them?

This country is completely lame when it comes to stuff like this. Germany and the Nordic countries (and probably a lot more) have specific Christmas beers and it really adds to the atmosphere of Christmas.

What do we get? A festively decorated cardboard box that contains the same bloody beer you get all year round! L

That's not technically correct. Many microbreweries brew beers specifically for Christmas, or at least the Winter season. Anchor, Sweetwater, Boston Beer, Sierra Nevada, Goose Island, Capital, Great Lakes...and I'm sure I'm missing dozens of others that are local or regional and not available near me.

Not to mention all of the Christmas beers that are imported...Sam Smith's Winter Welcome, the Doppelbocks brought over from Germany, all of the Christmas beers from Belgium (Corsendonk, Delirium, Gouden Carolus, Scaldis, and Stille Nacht (which, in fairness, sucked balls), etc etc etc.

You just have to know what to look for, and more importantly, know WHERE to look. Are you buying beer in a 7-11, or in a liquor store that targets a beer clientele? You're in California, so there's no reason why you can't find them if you look carefully. I would think you couldn't swing a dead cat without hitting a Christmas beer in CA.

Or maybe it's just California that's lame? Because Georgia's Christmas beer selection is fantastic.

True Steve. You just have to think a bit smaller than the mainstream side of the beer aisle. Find some stores that sell local and semi-local microbrews and you will find Christmas beers. Anchor comes to mind right away as a brewer to look for.
