Sprecher Pipers Scotch-Style Ale

Sprecher Brewing Co

Steve: Sprecher is one of the great Wisconsin microbreweries, but despite it's Germanic name, they excel in making beers of all styles..Belgian, English, German, etc. This one is no exception. I almost wish I had a thistle glass when drinking this. It's a deceptive ale, it doesn't taste strong at first, but you feel the alcohol later. It's a malty ale, with a nice sweet, caramel-like flavor, with a smokey background. The hops are nicely balanced. I think this could be a good session ale, but the 8.3% abv would catch up to you very quickly. (11/8/2009)
