Rocky: Pretty typical, middle-of-the-road IPA. As compared to the granddaddy of American IPA's, Sierra Nevada, it's a little more hoppy, but not as good overall. Not as balanced and I noted a little bit of a metallic presence. Also, more like an English IPA...lacking the citrus presence that the American northwest hops are famous for. Worth trying if you're in the area, but not worth a special trip. (8/20/2005)

Steve: Well, this had the right color for a Maibock (darker then a pilsner, about the same color as a Festbier), but was way too hoppy. A good Maibock's balance should lean more towards the malty side, not hoppy. It was decent, but it didn't have that strong malt character that a good Maibock should have. (1/21/2006)

Rocky: At 5.9% ABV it might be slightly stronger than most beers but not exactly a "winter warmer". It's like a weak porter with subtle hints of some fruit & spices, which is common for winter beers. I liked it. A lot of small breweries really go over the top for their winter seasonal, but that wasn't the case for Summit. There's such a thing as a winter brew and such a thing as a session brew, but not many examples of a winter session brew. That's what this is. (5/22/2005)
